Research and Training Center on
Full Participation in Independent Living
The Division of Adult Studies participated with the Research and Training Center on Independent Living at the University of Kansas, Life Span Institute to facilitate accessibility for people with disabilities at One-Stop workforce centers through partnerships with Centers for Independent Living (CILs).
The
Division of Adult Studies views One-Stop Centers as a central point for numerous
community based agencies and groups as well as federal and state-supported agencies
(e.g., adult education, employment services, Indian and Native American programs,
HUD employment and training activities, welfare to work, and veterans employment
and training programs). In addition, employers are connected to the One-Stop
centers as potential sources of qualified job applicants. We hypothesized that
working with One-Stop partners would be a cost-effective strategy for promoting
access for people with disabilities to a variety of generic services. We also
recognized that through the One-Stop partners we could use an existing structure
to identify other generic community services as appropriate audiences for our
materials.
