IAM Staff Development Modules

These modules contain an agenda, script, PowerPoint presentation utilizing open-captioned video segments, handouts, activities and evaluation materials. The modules are contained on a CD-ROM and are Macintosh and PC compatible.Provided below are PDF files of each modules' print materials. A limited number of CD's are available. In order to increase recruitment, retention and completion for students with disabilities, colleges must be inviting, welcoming and inclusive. Campus diversity must include students with disablities. The IAM works to achieve this goal through the use of these Staff Development Modules:
Helping Everyone Feel Included
• PURPOSE: The purpose of this module is to increase awareness of basic
disability etiquette and provide guidelines to influence future choice of words,
actions, and attitudes. When attitudes surrounding disabilities are positive
and encouraging, a college will be inviting, welcoming and inclusive of students
with disabilities.
• TARGET AUDIENCES: College staff, Disability Support Services Staff,
College Instructors, College Administrators, Students with disabilities, Students
without disabilities
Self-Advocacy
• PURPOSE: The purpose of this module is to familiarize participants with
the definition of self-advocacy, build awareness of how self-advocacy differs
from high school to college, provide steps for practicing self-advocacy skills,
and highlight the importance of self-advocacy throughout life.
• TARGET AUDIENCES: Students with disabilitie, Parents and guardians of
students with disabilities, Disability Support Services Staff
Disclosure and Confidentiality
• PURPOSE: The purpose of this module is to make participants aware of
the sensitive and complex issues that surround disclosure and confidentiality
for both students and staff.
• TARGET AUDIENCES: College instructors, Students with disabilities, Parents
and guardians of students with disabilities, Disability Support Services Staff
Accommodations
• PURPOSE: The purpose of this module is to provide a clear understanding
of what an accommodation is and is not, and to provide a template for the accommodation
selection process.
