SLD Identification:
What We Know..... What We Don't Know
Topic Area: Learning Disabilities
With the passage of IDEA 2004 school staffs are now permitted to identify students with Learning Disabilities (LD) with procedures other than IQ-Achievement discrepancy models. Responsiveness to Intervention (RTI) models have surfaced as the most frequently cited alternative. RTI has been the center of considerable attention by researchers, practitioners, and policy makers in recent years. Much as been learned to provide direction for the best way(s) to implement TRI models.... however, there are many questions remaining to be answered. This session will present a summary of things that we do know and things that we don’t know regarding RTI. Implications of answers to these questions and, from a larger perspective, the potential ramification and implications of adopting this model on the entire construct of LD will be presented.
